Hi everyone,
I edit the Vaccines Today website and we are planning to open a new section in the coming months called Your Stories.
The idea is simple: we want more personal stories from guest authors about their experience with vaccination. We're looking for contributions from parents, doctors, researchers, public health officials, campaigners and anyone else with a story to tell.
Many…

Thank you for your comment.
Many EU Members States achieved measles and rubella elimination years ago according the WHO definitions in Eliminating Measles and Rubella: Framework for the verification process in the WHO European region. In the WHO document, disease elimination is defined as: the absence of endemic measles or rubella cases in a defined geographical area for a period of at least 12 months or more, in the presence of a well performing surveillance system; and endemic transmission is defined as: the existence of continuous transmission of indigenous or imported measles or rubella virus that persists for a period of 12 months or more in any defined geographical area.
Although many EU Members States fulfil these two criteria for elimination, measles is an extremely contagious disease. The large number of people moving freely between EU countries means that it is necessary to look at the bigger picture and consider the EU as one geographical area when it comes to measles and rubella elimination.
Achieving measles elimination in the EU by 2015 is still possible but it will be a formidable task.

We're working on the webcasting for the regional launch and will share a link if/when we have one. If we don't end up streaming live, the footage will be available the day after the event. We'll keep you posted...
